Recycling Ethically

Many people are unaware of some of the more ugly facts associated with companies involved with collecting scrap tyres and other goods. While on the surface it may appear that those who say they are recycling for you are doing it well. Unfortunately, some unscrupulous operators are making no effort to actually recycle tyres. They simply collect tyres cheaply and dump them in heaps. Many do not have any tyre recycling equipment or legitimate contracts to export tyres legally.

Some New Zealand tyre collectors are involved in illegally exporting used tyres to countries that do not accept them – Vietnam and China are 2 countries that DO NOT accept scrap tyres.

New Zealand is a signatory to the Basel Convention - an agreement that controls the movement of hazardous waste throughout the world.
